3Following the end of the season which saw Cardiff City Ladies be relegated from their league, I was involved in multiple board meetings which would change the club forever.
In the board meetings, a proposal was put in place that the club would have a complete make over and essentially become a brand-new team. The name, logo, kit, home ground would all change and me and my fellow sports journalism colleague would be a big part of that.
Before we could make any changes, myself, my fellow sports journalism colleague, and the business officer at the club discussed through everything we had done for the season just gone and highlighted the positives and negatives of them. We wanted to clearly identify what didn’t work for the club and what did, therefore we can take what did work into into the future of the new rebrand.
Following this, we then had further meetings where we would plan out the next few weeks and months for how the rebrand will play out. It was important for us to do this as we want to act like how the professional teams would do in this type of situation. The end goal for this club is to become a professional side, and the only way we can make that happen is to act professional in everything we do.
To have these meetings itself was a great experience. It felt really professional which made me act professional. This is something that I have certainly learned to do since having these meetings and I feel it will benefit me for the future as will inevitably be involved in similar situations again.
Overall, I have learnt so much since being involved more within the club itself. Whereas last season and the start of this season, which saw me just focus on the media side of things in my spare time, I feel I have now integrated myself with the club and I am a valuable member. I have developed the way I work and the way I work with others, especially when in a team, which requires understanding and delegation. Going forward, I will continue to develop myself and I will strive to get the new club to where it wants to be.
