Christian Eriksen has left Tottenham after seven years to join Inter on a four year deal.
After a year of speculation the Dane has finally put pen to paper, signing a £16.9 million contract at the Italian club.
Eriksen signed for Spurs in 2013 from Ajax for £11 million and he soon became a vital part of the North London club.
The creative midfielder scored 69 goals and created 89 assists in 304 appearances for Spurs, winning the clubs player of the year in 2013/14 and 2016/17.
Speculation of the transfer came about at the end of last season when Eriksen spoke to Danish media stating his desire to try something new. It was also reinforced when Eriksen rejected multiple contract offers from Spurs with his current deal expiring at the end of this season.
With risk of losing him for free at the end of the season, Jose Mourinho has decided to cut ties with the midfielder with the confidence he has the right requirements at the club to replace him.
Announced at the same time, Spurs decided to activate the option to purchase Giovani Lo Celso permanently from Real Betis having signed on loan in the summer.
The Argentine had a slow start to his Spurs career, but he has recently showed great ability and potential which has clearly pleased Mourinho to activate his purchase.
With the loss of Eriksen to the Italian giants, Spurs will be looking to move on quickly and kick on with the rest of the season.
It’s going to be a tough task for Tottenham to replace the Dane but they certainly have enough quality amongst their ranks. Whether Spurs dip into the market for a new creative midfielder is another story but the clubs main priority this transfer window surely is to bring in a new striker to replace the injured Harry Kane.
