Former Cardiff City manager, Neil Warnock, has kindly donated £500 of his own money to Taffs Well Football Club to help raise money for a new defibrillator for the people living in the Rhiw'r Ddar, an area of Taffs Well.

Warnock has a strong friendship with Taff Well’s chairman, John Newbury, and he gave him and the club the big donation after finding out about the fund raise. Along with this, Warnock also gave the club a signed shirt, which will be used for auction in the aid of the fund.

The idea of the fund raise began when the club committee noted there wasn't a defibrillator for the people living in the Rhiw'r Ddar.

The committee were then well informed of the benefits of defibrillators and the strong evidence base of their effectiveness compared to CPR. The club also noted the other potential lifesaving capabilities that the players, fans and local community could benefit from with the purchase of a defibrillator.

Following this, the Taffs Well committee finally agreed to fund raise for one.

Unfortunately, due to the recent floods that have stormed the village, the fundraising has been made difficult and had to be put on hold. Instead of going towards the defibrillator, the charitable donations have rightly been redirected towards those effected by the floods who need immediate help.

To help restart the fund raising, Taffs Well FC are now considering approaching the British Heart Foundation and asking whether they can contribute towards the final costs.

If the club do find an agreement between them and the British Heart Foundation, or any other charity, they are aiming to install the defibrillator later this year. The new defibrillator is being planned to be placed outside the ground with a plaque placed next to it, containing all the names of the people who have donated.
