Cardiff City Ladies emphatically beat Briton Ferry Ladies 5-0 at the Centre of Sporting Excellence.

The game started brightly with both sides seeing much of the ball, but chances were limited with both defences looking strong.

The first real chance of the game came after 20 minutes when Kylie Nolan found some space down the right-hand flank. The winger excellently put in a cross towards Olivia Thompson, however the attacker could not keep her effort down as the ball beat the cross bar.

Moments later, after a good spell of possession, the hosts took the lead after a great piece of play down the right once again. Wing back, Maria Francis Jones, drilled in a superb ball across the box allowing, hattrick-hero from last week, Cori Williams to tap home and give her side the lead.

Following the goal, the home side began to play with confidence with more chances being created. Nolan, once again a bright spark down the right, made a great direct burst before cutting inside and striking towards goal, but Briton Ferry’s goalkeeper got down well to parry the effort out.

Shortly before the interval, the visitors, in what was a rare attack, came inches away from scoring as they struck the bar.

In the second half, the pattern of play resumed with Cardiff City dominating possession.

On the 53rd minute the home side came close to scoring their second as Williams was played in with a great ball. The captain and striker of the day found herself one on one with the goalkeeper and looked certain to score, however she saw her effort agonisingly fall wide of the goal.

After a spell which saw the visitors create some half chances, the hosts clinically extended their lead on the 65th minute. Nolan, full of energy, burst down the right flank before squaring the ball to substitute, Jasmin Turner, who simply tapped home increasing the deficit.

Minutes later, the hosts showed their quality again as they extended their lead to 3-0. Turner scored her second goal of the game as she once again tapped home in what was a carbon copy of the home side’s second goal.

On the 79th minute, Cardiff found a fourth as they continued to rub salt in the wounds of Briton Ferry Ladies. A lovely out swinging corner met the head of Williams who expertly placed the ball into the back of the net.

Moments later, the home side hit five as Kelly Isaac got in on the act. The substitute picked the ball up on the edge of the area, before firing excellently into the back of the net.

In the closing stages Cardiff continued to create more chances and should’ve scored more, however the players will certainly be delighted with their empathic five goal victory.

In what was a great performance by every player, the games man of the match goes Kylie Nolan for her two assists and tremendous work rate throughout.

A disappointing defeat for Briton Ferry Ladies, however a chance to experiment with the team before they resume action in the Welsh Premier League.
