Tottenham suffered a second defeat on the bounce in their new stadium as Ajax ran out 1-0 winners in the Champions League first leg semi-final.
Ajax continued their fairy tale in the Champions League as they edged past Tottenham in the first leg semi-final. Tottenham, who had 4 ex-Ajax players on the pitch, started the game slowly and Ajax capitalised on this by scoring what could be a crucial away goal. Promising talent, Van De Beek, was played onside by the Spurs defence and coolly slotted home, sitting down keeper Lloris in the process.

Mauricio Pochettino was disappointed with his sides lack of chances in the game and also commented on his frustration on the start they made. "We didn't create many chances. We arrived in the last third but didn't find a way to create chances. I think we felt though that we can be in the tie in that second half. We took more risks. It gave us the hope that the second leg is going to be tough for us and them. Today wasn't our best game and we cannot start the game like this."
What’s next?
Tottenham will want to avoid a third defeat in a row as they travel to the south coast against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday. Ajax will have eight days off now to prepare for the second leg in Amsterdam.
