Tottenham continued their great run and showed their title credentials as they stroll to a 6-2 victory over a dire Everton.

Boosted from their North London Derby victory, Tottenham smashed Everton in their last game before Christmas, moving them to only two points behind second placed Manchester City. Despite the comfortable victory, Spurs had to come from behind as Theo Walcott swept home a low cross from Dominic Calvert Lewin. Everton’s lead however was short lived and after a terrible mix-up between defender Zouma and goalkeeper Pickford, Son sublimely scored into the empty net from an acute angle. The goals began to swiftly flow as Dele Alli reacted first to Pickford’s save to slot home before Harry Kane made it 3-1 as Trippier’s curling freekick rebounded off the post straight into the path of the England striker. Shortly after the break, Christian Eriksen made it four with a stunning 20-yard volley. Everton then gave their fans hope as the former Spurs man, Sigursdsson, fired past Hugo Lloris making it 4-2. Despite this glimmer of hope, the game was gone for Everton as Spurs added a fifth and sixth goal from Son and Kane respectively. It was almost a perfect day for Spurs however Alli was forced off at half time after colliding with a poor challenge from England team mate Pickford.

Mauricio Pochettino was very pleased with his squads’ fitness and performance after coming out of a tough game against Arsenal last Wednesday. "I'm so pleased, so happy. We came from a tough game on Wednesday against Arsenal and today the team was so fresh with plenty of energy. We played very good football. It was fantastic. When you play that way, you must be very proud."

Everton’s manager Marco Silva has criticised the referee for his decision on disallowing an Everton goal that at the time would have made it 2-0. "I'm not here to find an easy excuse. It would have been 2-0, it doesn't look anything special. I don't know if it would have been the same in the other box.”

Silva continued "A second goal for us would be different for sure. In that moment the referee saw something I did not see. I can't see anything there.”

What’s Next?

Both teams are in action on Boxing Day with Everton travelling to play Burnley whilst Tottenham host Bournemouth at Wembley.
