We take a look at Tottenham’s brand-new signings for the coming season and discuss how they could impact the team and achieve success for the North London Club.

After 2 transfer windows without any signings, Tottenham fans were crying out for Daniel Levy to delve into his pocket and splash the cash. Their wishes were soon granted as Spurs acquired 4 new acquisitions to the club: Jack Clarke, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon. It was a transfer window which saw Spurs smash their record transfer fee, but will it turn out to be a success for them in the coming season.

Jack Clarke (Leeds to Tottenham - £10 million - Clarke sent back to Leeds on loan):

Jack Clarke became the first Tottenham Hotspur player to sign for the club since Lucas Moura back in January 2018. The 18-year-old winger signed from Leeds United for an initial £10 million fee before being loaned back to the club for another season in the Championship. Many Spurs fans were surprised when the news broke of this signing, but they eventually came around when they learned about the potential of the teenager. Clarke’s loan back to Leeds shows the plan Spurs boss Pochettino has for the winger by having him develop further in another full season in the Championship which will help him make the step up to the Premier League next year. In Clarkes breakthrough season last year, he featured 24 times and scored 2 goals.

Despite not being able to see Clarke in a Spurs shirt this season, he’ll certainly be one for the future. With Pochettino’s guidance, the Yorkshire born player is destined for great things and should help bring success to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon to Tottenham - £63 million):

Ever since Mousa Dembele left for China in January 2019, Tottenham have been looking for the ideal replacement for the Belgium. On the 2nd of July, Spurs finally got their man and signed Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele for a club record £63 million. Speculation of this transfer started very early on in the summer, but it wasn’t until the start of July when Spurs completed the transfer. The French born box to box midfielder is an exciting prospect and will certainly improve the North London side next season. Tottenham fans will be hoping Ndombele settles in quickly and begins dominating the midfield helping them achieve the success they want and deserve. Ndombele featured 48 times in the last campaign and scored 2 goals which earned him a call up to the French national team where he has gone on to make 6 appearances.

Overall, Tanguy Ndombele is a fantastic signing for Tottenham Hotspur. He is a perfect replacement for Mousa Dembele and will certainly add more quality to Tottenham’s midfield. Ndombele is on course to having a fabulous career and if he can kick on at Spurs, he will certainly help them on the way to success.

Giovani Lo Celso (Real Betis to Tottenham - Loan - with an option to buy for £55 million):

After Spurs made the signings of Clarke and Ndombele on the same day, many fans expected them to make several signings soon afterwards. This was not the case however as Spurs did not make any more signings until the transfer deadline day. One of the signings Spurs brought in on deadline day was Argentine midfielder, Giovani Lo Celso, from Real Betis. With speculation that Christian Eriksen was going to leave in the summer, Spurs needed a replacement and Lo Celso fit the bill. Spurs bought Lo Celso on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season for a fee of £55 million, which would make him Tottenham’s second biggest signing. Lo Celso is a very good player who will certainly add quality to Tottenham’s attacking threat. Lo Celso’s abilities include his great dribbling and vision. In Betis colours last season, Lo Celso scored 16 goals in 45 appearances.

Whether Spurs sell Christian Eriksen or not, they certainly have a great replacement in Lo Celso. He will definingly add to the quality Spurs already have and if he can settle in quickly, he will become a great player under Mauricio Pochettino.

Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham to Tottenham - £25 million):

The final signing Spurs made during the summer transfer window was 19-year-old left back Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham. Sessegnon had been heavily linked with Spurs for a few years but he has now put pen to paper confirming him as a Tottenham Hotspur player. Sessegnon has signed a 5-year contract with the North London club worth a grand total of £25 million. Like Clarke, Sessegnon is a Pochettino player that will be built for the future. The left back is very versatile, which is a quality Pochettino likes to have with his players, having played left wing and right wing during his time at Fulham. With huge quality to his name at just 19, Sessegnon is only going to get better at Tottenham, especially learning under Pochettino. After a fantastic 2017/18 season with Fulham in the Championship, Sessegnon struggled to replicate his form when Fulham reached the topflight last season with the 19-year-old only scoring 2 goals in 38 appearances.

Overall, Sessegnon is a fantastic signing for Spurs and will certainly be part of their successful future. The young talent in only going to get better at Tottenham with Pochettino guiding him as well as the other players like Danny Rose and Ben Davies.

Conclusion:

This transfer window has been a massive success for Tottenham Hotspur. Having not spent any money in the past two transfer windows, this summer was a chance to improve the Tottenham squad that is on the verge of success. Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso are signings that should heavily improve the Spurs side currently and Sessegnon and Clarke will be part of the bright future. Along with the new signings, another success for Spurs in this window is the fact they have kept key stars such as Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen. Some fans may argue they wanted more signings, having been heavily linked with Paulo Dybala and Bruno Fernandes however Pochettino has confirmed he is very happy with his new signings. With the new additions at the club, Tottenham look much stronger and this could lead them all the way to success in the coming season.
