USW Women’s 1st and Coleg y Cymoedd drew blanks in a tense encounter at the USW Sport Park.
The game started brightly between the two Welsh sides with the visitors looking dangerous down the left.
The first major chance of the game came from the visitors who put in a teasing ball down the right. The ball was pinned up to the back post and caught out USW keeper, Chelsea Herbet, but luckily no player was there to tap home to opener.
Much of the first half was both teams trying to create good build up plays but neither could sustain a threatening attack.
Coleg y Cymoedd were certainly strong down the left flank with many attacks starting from that side. Herbet was needed again to smother an effort but neither keeper was really tested in the first half.
The last chance of the first half came for USW after Rhian Oakley made a blistering run down the right. The USW striker ran through almost the whole defence and whilst making a 50/50 challenge with the last defender, the ball blasted just wide of the post.
In the second half, the game retained its intensity with both sides even in possession.
Coleg y Cymoedd had the first shots of the game but neither tested Herbet in the USW goal.
Late in the game, Coleg y Cymoedd began to tire allowing USW to take control and create chances. The biggest chance for USW in the second half came from their brightest player, Lauryn Lions. The USW winger skipped through the visitor’s defence and fired towards goal, but it agonisingly fell wide of the post.
The game ended 0-0 with both sides putting in a good shift on the new USW 4G pitch.
USWs next game is an away tie against Solent Women’s 1st which will be played on the January 29.
