Tottenham’s 100% record in their new stadium was wiped out by rivals West Ham, after Michal Antonio fired past a sluggish Tottenham side.
Tottenham went into the game with 8 goals scored and none conceded at their new stadium but were undone by an energetic West Ham team. Spurs started the game well with chances being created but West Ham took the game in the second half and eventually scored through Antonio. A response from Spurs was not to be seen and the north London club fell to a disappointing defeat.
More to follow…
In the press conference after the game, Mauricio Pochettino was critical on his sides second half performance. "I am very disappointed, we all feel disappointed. The first half was good, second half wasn't…Of course, it was tough, we knew it would be tough, it's a derby. They arrive in a very good, fresh condition to compete, and for us the circumstance was very different. We now need to move on."
Manuel Pellegrini commented after the game how pleased he was with his sides effort against rivals Tottenham. "We played a big game, we defended well and attacked well, and we played in a way I've always wanted this team to play against a big team. For the fans, we know Tottenham is a major rival, so it's good for them."
What’s next?
Tottenham will have to move on from this defeat today as they face a tough test against Ajax in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday. West Ham take on Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
